The evening started with a review of 2011 and then moved into the fun part of exploring new ideas and opportunities – the group came up with over 25 new ideas for Divecrew to explore – look out for some of them over the coming weeks

Then it was over to the Weather Vane – for a New Year drink and social

Hilton St Anne’s Manor was the place to be on Dec 17th from 7pm.

70 divers and guests from Divecrew took to the floor for what is being described as one of the best Divecrew Xmas party’s to date.

People were welcomed with a Glass of Bellinni or Champagne, before taking their places for a 4 course Traditional Christmas dinner. Washed down with large amounts of wine and good cheer.

Then the disco erupted into life and that was it – the dance floor was swamped till the last notes drifted into silence at 1am.

Thanks to all who joined in the fun and we are already looking forward to Xmas 2012.

Helen, Jack and James headed for the National Dive Centre in Chepstow, Helen undertaking her PPB and the boys undertaking dry suit speciality (first time diving in the UK). It turned out to be a definite day to record in detail in the log book, two really superb dives. The divers were assisted by Captain Andrew Mackie TDM (who was put in charge of organising the day at Chepstow, dive planning, dive supervision and dive leading, and myself. The water was actually warmer than the air temperature (water 11 degrees, air 7 degrees).  The visibility was ‘incredible’ regardless of depth. We did one dive maxing out at 17 metres and one at 12 metres, on both dives we enjoyed fantastic visibility, exploring land rovers, planes, armoured cars and trucks, a bus, and negotiated lots of swim throughs to test those buoyancy skills and sightings of some very large fish. Everyone had a great day with some really excellent diving, well done to all the divers and Captain Mackie on a great job, not forgetting Sue on shore support (She was actually colder than the divers!).  For Andrew as part of his Dive Master training, invaluable experience of dealing with a day’s diving in a site he did not know, but he knows it very well now! It was a pleasure to dive with you guys, well done and congratulations on your specialty diver ratings.

Chepstow is about one and half hours from Bracknell and really easy to drive to. The NDAC are currently investing in their facilities and do a mean burger and cheesey chips. It is a great diving experience with lots of underwater attractions in close proximity to each other making navigation a dream. Safe diving experiences for novice divers and when the visibility is good, it takes a lot to beat it for inland water diving. I can recommend this site if you are thinking of a club dive, watch for this one coming up in the future on the Dive Crew website.

A really good giant stride just look at the technical bits: hand on regulator and mask, other hand holding gauges and weight belt buckle, looking straight ahead. Absolutely text book. And lovely pink fins too. Well done Amy.

Jodie goes through her paces at Vobster. Making an absolutely cracking dive of 49 minutes. Great buoyancy, well controlled, good buddy pairing (with her instructor Martin who says thanks for looking after him) and using less and less air the more she dives. Boat, plane, swim through’s, crushing works, car, drop off’s Jodie did them all in one long dive. Well done

I though your buoyancy was really great today. Thank you for making my job so easy, well done and congratulations on your dry suit specialty. Love to dive with again sometime. If you ever get the chance, love to see you on one of my holidays to the Red Sea, trust me I do not invite all divers, only nice people as it is my holiday too.

As I said in the dive debrief, can’t believe you have done so few dives. You did an excellent job. Looking forward to diving again with you tomorrow PPB.

Both Helen and Jodie were a dream, excellent divers. There buoyancy, trim, buddy positioning was fantastic. Tim and I would definitely dive again with these ladies.

One for your records. As you can guess I followed through with the open water dives on the Great Barrier Reef. Did it over 4 dives in two days and also got a bit of snorkelling in.

First day I was, to be fair, a bit nervous and had a little wobbly on the first mask clear. Couldn’t believe it as I had no problem at all in the pool. 

Made sure I did it on each successive dive from there so that I was sure I was over that one. Second day was brilliant. Really enjoyed it.

Ticked off, amongst all the fantastic fish, a reef shark and giant barracuda, which was pretty exciting stuff for me. 

Dive Instructor was a French chap called Pierre. 

I have sent you a couple of photos as evidence.

Oh! I did tell them to fill in Divecrew details on referral form but did it myself in the end before I sent it off.

Didn’t tell you at the time, but I think your pace, delivery and perception as an instructor are superb. Would have been good to finish the course off with you. I am sure it is a little frustrating doing the hard bit, only for someone else to see the outcome.
