Divecrew’s last night Dive of the Year

Tonight at Wraysbury Dive Centre was the last night dive of 2009 and Divecrew were there. The ‘awesome foursome’ of Tim, Penny, John and Viv braved the cold and dark, as well as Arthur’s chilli, to take part.

Entering the pitch black water at 7:15, we descended onto the cargo container before navigating across to the milk float via a thick cloud of silt courtesy of another group of divers. Then it was on towards the upright boat, and across to, down and along the canyon and towards the traffic lights.

From here we headed east and were eventually rewarded with the sight of a massive pike, hunting for its supper. After staying with it for a few minutes we turned south and came across the Thorpe Park Ranger – spooky at the best of times, before heading back towards the lifeboat and its resident crayfish.

Heading for the black cab we saw some other brave souls and decided to head away from them, towards our exit point. Here we passed two more huge pike and numerous perch having a sleep. After checking to see that our Santa Mouse was still present on the Christmas Tree we finally surfaced after spending a little over an hour underwater and in need of a cup of tea.

DSCF2563DSCF2566Visibility was excellent – some 15m and water temperature was 10 degrees. Night diving has now finished at Wraysbury until the regular weekly events kick off again in March. Wraysbury staff may organise a one-off night dive in January though so if you fancy something a bit different and completely chilled out then charge up the torch batteries and keep an eye out for the announcement.

Many thanks to Penny, John and Viv for supporting the dive.
