BWRAF – such a simply thing and yet why oh why oh why do so few scuba divers actual bother to do this.
Bangkok Women Really Are fellas, Bruce Willis ruins all films, Big Willies are really fun, Big Women are really fun – please feel free to comment and add your own versions to this list……
It has been proven by DAN that over 50% of all diving accidents and fatalities are caused by the failure to work together as a buddy team and complete scuba diving buddy checks!!!!!!!
I am out here in Dahab and have had to read the riot act to almost every PADI Open Water scuba diving Instructor/DM I have come across – they all insist on putting their scuba diving kit on by themselves even when there are PADI Open water students around – where does this belief that they can ignore the buddy system come from. I know that it is not specific to Dahab by any means. I even saw one squat down and almost fall flat on his nose trying to put it on. When challenged – he stated – I was told as a PADI Divemaster/Instructor I had too and never to use the Open water students.
My response was like a volcano erupting – laying down the following challenge – he if could match my 5 reasons why he should not do it with 5 solid reasons why he should do it within the PADI system I would back down. Surprise surprise he could give me not even one good reason…..
Yet the solution is so ease – get your Scuba diving Buddy to help – it is more fun, easier and also safety. To quote Jerry Macquire – you had me at hello – well fun in this case.
They then buddy check themselves – What is that all about? – the clue is in the name – Buddy Check?
Upon exiting the water – as if by magic the Buddy fair appears and helps them out of their kit – who promoted this bloody fairy – get back to collecting lost teeth. No wonder PADI open water students pick up such bad habits.
Well I feel better for the rant – so if you are of any level diver and are reading this article then
PLEASE PLEASE use the BUDDY system to the fullest and be safe – I don’t want to be quoting you as an actual diving circumstance at the next IDC as to the downfall of not completing a BUDDY check.

I had to rise to the challenge of alternatives for BWRAF:
Bite Wasabe And Really Freak
Brian Was Rude And Farted
Breathing Water Really Aint Fun
(I can’t claim originality for any of them though!!)
Love the last one – glad to see that you are using BWRAF
Thanks for playing
Bring Weed, Rizlas And Fire.
And Collin is bang on, the buddy check is too often slack, not taken seriously and totally ignored by the professionals that are taking the dive. I was lucky enough to be properly trained by Nelson Abenido in Moalboal and dived in Dahab with Daryl and Jane who did the drill properly every time.
