Kind words for Terry

Hi Everyone,

Just  a quick note to thank Terry for letting me turn up at such short notice for Monday’s Nitrox course.

I called on the off chance that I could join a course running later in the day and was really amazed that you had the crew-kit to hand and that Terry would let his class increase in size at short notice.

I started diving in 1988 and enjoyed it so much that I took every class going until I took my IDE and Medic First Aid Instructor exam in 1992. I never did get the time to train more than a few people, but I still love diving. Terry is obviously a real enthusiast and the rest of the class, who he knew and must have trained before have been bitten too.

I feel very happy to practise my new skill safely, that those he trained are also proficient and that finding your facility is something it has taken far too long to do.

Please pass on my thanks to Terry, who also pointed out that you can get me back into active membership instead of my current non-teaching status! I feel an EFR, EFRI and refresher coming on!!

All the best,

John

A first for Divecrew and Underwater Centre Seychelles

Late in Nov 2009, Divecrew and Underwater Seychelles formed a new strategic alliance with the focus on IDC,s and immediately put this to good use by running the first IDC in the island paradise of the Seychelles since 2005.

Collin Miles Course Director and Owner Divecrew along with Glynis Saunders Master Instructor and Owner Underwater Centre set about putting 10 IDC candidates from places as far a field as California, Washington DC, South Africa, New Zealand, UK, Germany, and France as well as 2 candidates from the Seychelles themselves through their paces.

As well as completing the IDC, all 10 candidates also under took the Emergency First Aid Instructor course. To take advantage of the opportunity to further his EFR rating Tony Marie-Jeanne joined in the fun to become a Care for Child Instructor. “To teach such a large group was quite a challenge but the sight of 4 Annie dolls all being resuscitated at the same time was an extremely amusing to say the least “stated Collin Miles EFRI Trainer. Even the team mascot of Red Ted joined in the fun of Secondary Care.

After 10 days of hard work and enjoyment (yes – they all admitted after the event the course was the best they had ever taken and was a lot of fun .) they were ready to face the IE.

PADI agreed to run an IE especially for Divecrew and Underwater Centre and this was opened up to allowed additional people from the surround islands to join in the fun of the IE. In all 16 people attended the IE on the 27th and 28th February.

After two days of toil – all 10 candidates from Divecrew and Underwater Centre Seychelles passed with flying colours – with 3 candidates scoring perfect scores in all areas, Theory, Confined and Open Water – an amazing feat!!! Congratulations also to Tony Marie Jeannne who become Underwater Centre first home grown IDCS Instructor during the IDC/IE.

Big thanks to Richard Somerset (PADI examiner) and the PADI team in Bristol for your support in helping our candidates achieve their dreams. PADI were so impressed with the IE and candidates they will feature the event in the Undersea Journal!

Next stop is Speciality instructor training – with 7 joining up for the programme running immediately after the IE and the other 3 joining in the fun in August.

“It had been an amazing journey for them all, and I want to congratulate them on their achievements and look forward to seeing their success in the diving industry. The alliance has been so successful that we are already making plans for the next IDC programme on the 9th August” Stated Collin Miles (CD) Divecrew.

If you would like to join in the fun of completing your IDC/IE in the island paradise of the Seychelles or perhaps Dahab, Sharm or UK then please contact Collin Miles Course Director Divecrew on 01344 454245 or email idc@divecrew.co.uk. Even better why not say hi to some of the new instructors at LIDS on our stand in the PADI Village PV15.

This award puts Divecrew at the very top of the PADI dive centre network – with only 9 other centres in the UK holding this status.

This is the final stage of the journey started for Divecrew when Collin Miles achieved his Course Director rating in March 2009.

“The aim had always been to seek this prestigious award for Divecrew” – states Collin Miles Course Director “This accolade will allow Divecrew to offer 6 week career development programmes to become a PADI Instructor. This coupled with courses now being offered through Divecrew in The Seychelles, Dahab and Sharm in Egypt. Divecrew now is able to offer potential instructor candidates a huge choice of instructor development programmes and locations”

The next UK course starts in late March, whilst Dahab starts on the 12th April.

Do give us a ring on 01344 454245 to discuss your instructor development needs.
