Thousands of Project AWARE divers and community volunteers in 100 countries around the world will tackle local debris issues during International Cleanup Day

Approximately 350,000 volunteers worldwide will help remove some three million kilograms/seven million pounds of rubbish from shoreline and underwater environments – making a real contribution toward ending debris problems. How? By collecting valuable data on the amount and types of debris found both above and below the surface. This data is used to inform the public, educators and decision-makers about marine debris issues and possible solutions – a crucial part of the international effort.

Each September, Project AWARE Foundation coordinates the underwater portion of International Cleanup Day in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy (for events outside the UK) and The Marine Conservation Society (for events in the UK), which both organizes land cleanups. Together, these non profit entities are attempting to curtail debris and conserve aquatic environments worldwide.

Divecrew is taking part in the International Cleanup Weekend.

Swanage Pier is this years target

We will hit the beach on the Sunday 14th September for some cleanup both on land and in the water.

To hire equipment will cost £30.00 but the Berkshire Dive Centre will donate the profits to Project Aware, along with a huge supply of bin liners. Please ensure that you also bring along a net bag so we can complete some serious underwater clean up too.

Divecrew will also be running the Project Aware Speciality at the same time - this involves an Evening Lecture and then the Beach Clean Up. Cost will be £79.95. includes Certification, Project Aware Manual worth £30.00 and Project Aware Certificate.
